RLAA participation in Maslenitsa Festival at Circular Quay First Fleet Park, Sydney. Please read the President's letter below:

 

 

“Dear All,

 

On 22 February 2015 the Association participated in Maslenitsa Festival at Circular Quay First Fleet Park, Sydney.

 

The Association had its own stall at the Festival and the members had a great opportunity to meet and greet the visitors of the Festival, including the members of a Russian-speaking community in Australia. It was a truly unique opportunity to promote the Association and become well known among Russian-speaking people in Australia as well as a wider Australian community. It was also fun and enjoyable as we all had an opportunity to meet interesting people, try some delicious Russian food, participate in art and other competitions, watch amazing Russian singers, dancers and other participants. It was a great day, the food was delicious, the weather was fantastic, new contacts were made and we had so much fun.

 

I would like to thank my fellow members of the Executive Committee Daria Zakamskaya, Andre Petrov and Sergei Smirnov and our member Tatiana Stack for their time and effort in promoting the Association and their own legal firms at Maslenitsa Festival. I would like to thank our wonderful member Irene Ryan for organising such a wonderful event and creating such a great opportunity for our Association in particular! I also thank all other members who had a chance to attend the Festival and say hello to all of us at our stall.

Annual General Meeting of the Association was held.

 

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss all relevant matters of the Association.  RLAA members approved minutes of the previous AGM and the annual financial reports of the Association for the years ended on 30 June 2018 and 30 June 2019.

 

Lana Yashina, Andre Petrov and Sergei Smirnov resigned from the RLAA Committee and their respective positions of President, Vice-President and Treasurer. The following members were elected as office bearers:

 

1) President: Natalya Boyarkina;

 

2) Vice-President: Irene Ryan;

 

3) Secretary: Daria Zakamskaya; and

 

4) Treasurer: Tatiana Stack.

RLAA participation in 2017 Blackmores Running Festival.

Our members created their own team called "Russian-speaking Lawyers Accociation (Australia)" and ran 10 kilometres to raise money for charity. We created a fund raising page to raise money for such charity organisations as Cancer Council NSW. We are very grateful to everyone who helped us raise the money for such an important cause.

“Dear All,

 

On 6 March 2016 the Association participated in Maslenitsa Festival at Tumbalong park, Darling Harbour, Sydney.

 

It was such a beautiful sunny day, the food was so tasty, we met so many interesting people, all performers, dancers and singers were fantastic. It was a truly great event for our Russian-speaking community.

 

I would like to thank my fellow members of the Executive Committee (Daria Zakamskaya, Andrey Petrov and Sergei Smirnov) and our members Irina Hoskinson, Julia Ejelovitch and Liubov Poshevelya for their time and effort in promoting our Association and their own firms at Maslenitsa Festival.

 

Also, I would like to thank our member Irene Ryan for organising such a great event for our community! I can only imagine how much work was involved to organise such an event, especially when you are as busy as Irene so all our members and I appreciate all the hard work and thank her for this unique opportunity to be involved in such a great event!

 

I also thank all other members of our Association, members of our Russian-speaking community and Australian general public as well as visitors and guests of Sydney who had a chance to attend the Festival and visit our stall! It was nice talking to you!

A special resolution was passed at the meeting that the Constitution of the Association is to be amended (clauses 3.1, 3.2 and 3.5 in relation to becoming a member of the Association, eligibility for membership and cessation of membership). Annual Dinner of the Association was held in the Russian restaurant “Romance” in Sydney.

 

Russian-speaking lawyers gathered to discuss the work of the Association, exchange their views and experience on practicing law in Australia, network and enjoy a company of their fellow lawyers.

 

The honorable guests at the Dinner included the representatives of the Consulate-General of the Russian Federation in Sydney who attended the dinner to support the Association.

 

The President of the Association, Lana Yashina welcomed all guests and members of the Association and thanked them for their support of the Association. Ms Yashina noted that the Association attracts more and more members each year, including Russian-speaking lawyers from different states in Australia. The Association will continue organizing various events for its members on a regular basis in future.

 

The Association also announced the winner of the essay competition among Russian-speaking students of law faculties in NSW on the subject of “Distinguished Russian-speaking lawyers in the history of Australia”. The competition aimed to challenge the students to examine the legal history of Australia and discover some interesting information and facts about Russian-speaking lawyers in Australia.

 

Mr Sergei Galitsky, a barrister and member of the Association, kindly provided the prize for the competition. At the dinner, Mr Galitsky personally congratulated and handed the award to the winner, Sergei Smirnov, a law student from the University of Technology, Sydney who wrote an essay on Alex Chernov AC QC. Mr Chernov is one of the most accomplished Russian-speaking lawyers in Australia, he has a distinguished career working as a lawyer, barrister, judge and is the current Governor in Victoria. The essay competition among Russian-speaking law students in NSW

 

Russian-speaking Lawyers Association (Australia) invites Russian-speaking students of law faculties in NSW to participate in the essay competition on the subject of “Distinguished Russian-speaking lawyers in the history of Australia”. The competition aims to challenge the students to examine the legal history of Australia and discover interesting information and facts about Russian-speaking lawyers in Australia.

 

In order to participate in the competition, please submit a short essay to the following email address: president.rlaa@gmail.com. The winner will be announced at the Annual Dinner of the Association on 24 May 2014 and receive a prize of $300 kindly provided by a barrister and member of our Association, Mr Serge Galitsky.

 

Competition rules:

 

  1. The competition is held only among Russian-speaking students studying law in New South Wales.

  2. Please include your full name and the name of your law faculty and university.

  3. The essay must be written about Russian-speaking lawyers (barristers, solicitors, judges or other members of Australian legal system) who made an interesting contribution in Australian legal system in the past or who are doing it now.

  4. The essay must be in Russian and not longer than 1,000 words.

  5. The submission deadline is 8 May 2014.

  6. The winner will be announced at the Annual Dinner of the Association on 24 May 2014.

  7. The essays will be judged by members of the Executive Committee of the Association.

  8. The most interesting essays will be published on the Association’s website and its Facebook and LinkedIn pages.

"Dear All

 

It was great to see some of you at the AGM on 6 December 2013. It is a very busy time of the year so I appreciate that you could attend our AGM. We value your support.

 

For those of you who could not attend the AGM, the Executive Committee members would like to announce that the following members were elected to the positions of office bearers:
